Landscape Architecture Courses

LAA 4357 Landscape Architecture Design Implementation
5 credits Lecture/studio
Prerequisites: LAA 3420 Landscape architecture Construction I
LAA 3421 Landscape architecture Construction II

General
This course is designed to integrate the principles of construction with design. The class will be a combination of lecture and studio, complementing the instruction in the design studio class. Students will complete a full set of construction documents to support their design concept prepared in the beginning of the class.

Objectives
The purpose of this course is to demonstrate the relationship between design and construction, and to instruct the student how to prepare a comprehensive and effective set of construction documents. The following sets of drawings will be covered in the course and included in the final set:

• Title Sheet

• Layout and Dimension Plan

• Grading and Drainage Plan, and Details

• Paving Plan and Paving Details

• Masonry Wall Plan and Details

• Wood Structures Plan and Details

• Landscape Plan and Details

• Irrigation Plan and Details

In addition, the preparation of specifications and an estimate of probable construction cost will be a part of the regular assignment.

This course includes a research paper in either a generic construction product or method of construction. The research paper subject will be assigned or may be selected by the student.

Performance
It is expected that each student will be able to demonstrate qualitative growth for each of the objectives by the end of the course. Course grade will be based on problem solving skills as they relate to the achievement of the objectives.
