LAA 3350C - Site Design and Planning Studio

Prerequisites: Admission to professional level of studies

General
This is the initial professional design studio. Work products are comprehensive and reflect site specific landscape architecture design. The course emphasizes the synthesis of analysis information and its relationship to design development. Studio projects vary in scope from master planning to detailed design. Design understanding and skills are developed and improved in the context of ecological, cultural, historical and aesthetic issues. The design studio is integrated with concurrent study of Landscape Construction 1, LAA 3420.

Objectives

  1. Continued application of landscape architecture design process with special emphasis on analysis, synthesis, concept formulation and design development.
  2. Exploration of spatial themes based upon behavioral attitudes and the use of theory of landscape design.
  3. Continued improvement of graphic, written and oral skills.
  4. Development of site specific projects expressing 3-dimensional concept relationships between design program and site by investigating a broad range of materials and technologies.
Performance
The objectives are the basis for evaluating student work. In addition, the student will demonstrate receptiveness, initiative and organizational skills as attributes of creativity and professionalism. Work that habitually does not meet proficiency levels or project deadlines is a basis for termination.
