COURSE FULFILLMENTS: Three Credits

TEXTBOOK: No textbook required. Lecture notes, assigned readings, handouts and class exercises will be provided.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:
    This course provides students with a general understanding of the fundamental principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); with a hands on software experience using ArcGIS 9.2 (an ESRI desktop product); and with a real world problem to be solved by using spatial data analysis techniques and concepts.
GRADING:
  • Class Participation and Class Quizzes 10%
  • Homework Assignments (4) 20%
  • Midterm Examination 35%
  • Final Project (presentation and paper) 35%
Any assignments turned in late without instructor's approval will be decreased one (1) grade level. No student will be allowed to miss the field trip, the mid-term or the final project without prior authorization.

ATTENDANCE:
    Students are expected to attend classes and give notification in the event of another commitment or class conflict. Every effort will be made to accommodate students with a legitimate reason for missing a lecture, on the condition that the student makes arrangements to get the lecture notes from the available sources.
ACCOMMODATION:
    Students requesting classroom accommodation must first register with the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of Students Office will provide documentation to the student who must then provide this documentation to the Instructor when requesting accommodation.
