PROJECT ENGINEER

REPORTS TO: Project Manager/Vice President of Operations

Job Summary

This position provides administrative and technical support to Project manager on all projects. Position may function as a project manager for some construction projects.  Apply engineering principles and practices to insure that facilities are constructed and or renovated in accordance with Architectural and engineering specifications.

 

Key Responsibilities

1.      Request and obtain project submittals including but not limited to shop drawings, samples, mock-ups, product data, warranty manuals, operating manuals, etc.

2.      Thoroughly review project plans and specifications for identification of project submittals for every trade category.

3.      Review and approve, reject and/or comment on all submittals received and ensure conformance to project specifications and other requirements.

4.      Submit and track submittals to Architects and Owners and ensure timely flow of such submittal through each reviewing entity, by tracking and follow-up correspondence including dunning letters.

5.      Ensure successful transmittance of all approved submittals to Subcontractors upon approval by Owners, Architects and Engineers.

6.      Establish the flow of submittals at preconstruction meeting with the Owner/Architect and ensure satisfactory adherence to the flow.

7.      Identify any conflicts in items submitted against those bid by NuJak. This task requires collaboration with NuJak’s estimating department.

8.      Responsible for analysis, design, cost estimates, and schedules for commuter rail construction projects such as: parking lots, parking garages, rail projects, maintenance yard expansions and commuter stations.

9.      As project manager, monitor, direct and control activities of engineering consultants and construction contractors.

10. Assist in development and implement quality assurance plan and field inspections on assigned projects.

11. Develop scope of work for contractors and consultants for assigned projects.

12. Work with Senior Project Manager in getting submittals for Subcontractors.

13. Perform feasibility studies and condition assessments.

14. Provide overall project control to adhere to budgets, scope and schedule.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Ability to guide, manage and work with consultants performing design and construction services.
  2. Good judgment, organizational and communication skills.
  3. Ability to work independently as well as a member of a project team.
  4. Ability to perform design reviews and provide recommendations.
  5. Ability to perform engineering analysis, design, drafting, and technical report writing.
  6. Capable of managing multiple projects at various stages of planning, design, procurement and construction.
  7. Familiar with FDOT, SWFTMD, FDEP standards and applicable building and ADA codes preferred.
  8. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.  Advanced degree preferred.
  9. Ability to utilize computer aided design software a plus.
  10. Experience in developing project scope and request for proposal/bid.
