Junior Estimator

to: Chief Estimator/V.P. of Operations
Job Summary
This position provides
assistance to the Chief Estimator. Responsibilities include sending invitations
to Subcontractors, getting adequate prices, assuming coverage for plans, inputting
descriptions on invitations, preparation of spreadsheets and proposals for
projects, tracking down information, and ordering items for projects. This
individual works with in a general outline of duties to be preformed, Liaison
between owner and NuJak as needed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Send out bid invitations, get quotes for services.
2. Upload new projects to Blue Book, CMD, Dodge and
Construction Journal requesting subcontractor and supplier bids.
3. Work with Contract Administrators to keep a current
record of all Subcontractors’ information.
4. Do material and quantity takeoffs as requested by
Chief Estimator.
5. Prepare spreadsheets and proposals for projects.
6. Works with the Chief Estimator to send out bid
invitations to Subcontractors of the Owners preference.
7.
Maintain
and keep organized plan files in plans room.
8.
Maintain
an up-to-date file or library of material suppliers, current labor laws,
equipment rental rates, and qualified subcontractors by category.
9.
Forward
all new bidder information to Contract Administrators for integration into NuJak approved vendor database.
10. Assist in developing relationships
with vendors, suppliers and customers to expand business.
11. Attend preconstruction meetings.
12. Maintain and keep organized plan
files in plans room.
13. Supervise and assist in the
preparation of bids and proposals.
14. Prepare special reports requested by
the Executive team.
15. Maintain a log of Bid comparisons with competitors
for future review by Executive team. Bid comparisons shall be kept in a 3 ring
binder for review as needed.
16. Maintain
record of all detailed quantity and unit price proposals received for future
use in taking off a potential project.
17. Have thorough knowledge of company
procedures manual.
Minimum Requirements
1.
An
ability to thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in the
construction of project.
2. Sufficient knowledge of construction
techniques and the imagination to derive the most efficient method of
completing a task.
3. Thorough knowledge of quantity and
material takeoffs, including ability to maintain backup sheets and historical
data.
5. Ability to read and interpret plans
and specifications for projects typically performed by NuJak.
6. Must be organized and self directed.
7. Be willing
to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment with a positive attitude.
8. Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel and
construction estimating programs.
9. Ability to exhibit
flexibility and successfully work as part of a team.
