architects - Frederick Gilly
Although never built this was the first architectural project to use the reproductiion of the Parthenon as its climaxing element. Uses details from antiquity, but combines them in new ways appropriate to the new architecture of Romantic -Classicism. Incorporates Ledoux's discovery of design possibilities of one volume penetrating another volume. Exploits the idea of individual parts combined, but remaining independent. Combines things which do not ordinarily belong together.
