The Bauhaus, Dessau

architect: Walter Gropius

A great educator and architect. Gropius’ experiments at the Bauhaus changed architectural education all over the world.

Gropius moved the school from Weimer to Dessau, where he designed this revolutionary building. Here he built a building, which parallels and reflects the art movement of Cubism. Multiple viewpoints are needed to understand it. One must move around it, must see it from above, and even move under it: the Administration wing crossed over a main street.

This is architecture of volume, not mass.
